Redcentric wins contract to equip new City Hospitals Sunderland Unit
20 August 2010
Redcentric has been appointed to provide the LAN and WLAN systems for a new building at City Hospitals Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust.
The new unit includes a state of the art Integrated Critical Care Unit (ICCU), three new specialist wards and associated service areas. The facility is being specifically designed to reduce the chances of infection spreading between areas, Sunderland being one of the first in the country to recognise and utilise this new initiative. The build is being undertaken using innovative building techniques aimed at significantly reducing the length of construction.
Redcentric will install the new scheme's LAN as well as implementing a new WLAN infrastructure in the ICCU and Ward areas. The WLAN will be critical in supporting use of the Trust's Meditech integrated clinical system by providing electronic prescribing and mobile computing functionality. In addition to supporting data, the new WLAN is ready to support voice services and RFID tracking of hospital assets in the future.
The 138 bed unit, including 18 bed ICCU, is due to open late 2010.
