Redcentric launches UK compliant cloud infrastructure service

05 October 2011

Redcentric plc (AIM: RED.L) announces the launch of its public cloud Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) - one of the first VMware vCloud® Powered service in the UK. The service ensures full data compliance for UK organisations and reduces IT provisioning times from weeks to minutes.

Redcentric's IaaS provides companies with virtualised data centre capacity on demand, suited to those who need short-term additional capacity for specific projects, or who want to remove the cost and burden of managing server infrastructures internally.

With IaaS Redcentric customers can self-provision virtual machines in under 15 minutes compared to traditional provisioning timescales of six weeks* because the service utilises VMware's vCloud Director, for self-service management of virtual computing resources. Alternatively, customers can use Redcentric's customer support centre to provision their needs.

The service covers all corporate IT infrastructure requirements, from servers, to storage and archiving. Customers also benefit from a 'configurations catalogue' indexing all of their previous virtual machine configurations and Redcentric's pre-configurations for simple one click provisioning rather than having to configure each machine from scratch.

The service is provided through Redcentric's five UK based data centres and the company will offer a location guarantee policy for UK companies who need to meet and comply with current data protection regulation.

Redcentric guarantees the service resilience and to ensure that critical data can be managed 'as a service' delivers it via shared firewall and switching technology. It is also built to FSA, DPA and PCI-DSS standards - a critical consideration for UK companies considering cloud infrastructure. To reduce risk further, Redcentric also operates a sixth data centre in Amsterdam as back up.

"We understand that our customers require nothing less than full service availability from the IT infrastructure. That is why we guarantee resilience," comments John Roberts, head of managed services at Redcentric. "IaaS is an extension of our existing hosted infrastructure solution that has been supporting our customers with dedicated data centres or co-located and managed services. We have taken our 25 years of experience and built on it to develop a business-critical cloud solution for UK businesses.

"We're delighted that VMware agree and have accredited our service first out of the 190 other VMware solution providers. This is a testament to the hard work and commitment of the highly-skilled individuals here at Redcentric. We invest heavily in our people and technology to ensure that we are able to develop and support leading infrastructure solutions," said Roberts.

Customers are able to access resources in a number of ways dependent upon the individual requirements, these include via a LAN/WAN, local access, remote access, over the internet via desktop, laptop, and mobile devices.

Customers can sign up to the service on a 'pay as you grow' basis, enabling them to add or reduce capacity as needed. The service is aimed at companies with a legacy IT infrastructure that require investment to embrace new technologies, as well as those who have already embraced internal virtualisation, but need additional environments to scale-up or down but may not have the budgets to support further capital expenditure.
