Is ISDN dead?
Posted by Phil Dyson | 2 Jul 2014, 14:10 PM

I’m frequently asked, is ISDN is dead, my response is “we still sell it and organisations still want to buy it”. I think it’s a little premature to say ISDN is dead, even with the strong emergence of SIP Trunks. People trust ISDN, and they know it; this can often lead to the benefits of new technologies being overlooked. That’s not to say that I don’t struggle with the logic.

Posted by Phil Dyson | 23 Apr 2013, 15:18 PM

PC sales dropped by an unprecedented 14% in the first quarter of 2013, with just 76.3 million units being shipped in the first three months of the year. But what has caused such a sudden dip in demand? And how are businesses responding?

There are a number of benefits of Cloud-based VoIP, and these go much deeper than just the cost-centric. It is unsurprising then, that businesses moving their traditional, premise-based PBXs to the Cloud are becoming increasingly common. I am a huge proponent of Cloud-based telephony, and would urge sceptical IT directors to cast their eye over the article.

Posted by Phil Dyson | 15 Jan 2013, 17:31 PM

This week the Met office has issued an ‘amber / be prepared’ warning of heavy snow in the North East, Yorkshire and the East Midlands. How will this affect your business operations? Some extraordinary figures have been circulated since the last bout of heavy snowfall, numbers that will have unsurprisingly worried business owners and management teams ever since. Increasingly, snow and adverse weather conditions cause travel chaos across the UK, with roads often impassable and public transport unusable. The result of this is that staff are unable to get to the office, and can mean that your business grinds to a halt.

If there’s one thing you can rely on Boris Johnson for, it’s speaking his mind. And it’s safe to say that his recent thoughts on people working from home haven’t failed to live up to his usual style.

Posted by Phil Dyson | 2 Apr 2012, 13:19 PM

It was disappointing to see that VoIP is being routinely blocked by EU telecoms companies using ‘traffic management’ practices. The practice was revealed/confirmed by EU watchdog, the Body of European Regulators of Electronic Communications (BEREC).

A recent BBC article highlighted the changing face of working practices in the UK. Citing ‘teleworking’ as the catalyst for fast-paced evolution, the report tells us how the number of people working from home or remotely rose from 14% in 2006 to 46% in 2008…with the trend set to continue.

So, volcanic disruption threatens to ground flights and scupper our various plans all over again. But, hidden behind the media stories of cancelled holidays and 3-day waits in the airport, the Icelandic ash has a serious effect on the UK’s economy.
