What is the service on offer?
Citrix on Azure provides a complete virtual application and desktop solution giving employees access to their workspace from any device. Application and/or desktop environments are hosted in the Azure Cloud with Citrix infrastructure services hosted in the Citrix Cloud control plane.
For health and social care organisations needing to navigate through the perilous waters of Microsoft end of support, Citrix on Azure provides a safe passage:
- You can continue to run Windows 7 on the endpoint (PC, laptop, tablet etc.) but with the endpoint locked down; the endpoint launches the Citrix Receiver, which is used to access Citrix-enabled virtual desktops. This is a temporary solution that is designed to give you enough time to do the Windows 2010 upgrade.
- You can run Windows 10 or Windows Server 2016 as the OS in Citrix on Azure and then run the applications that used to run locally on the PC.
- You can move your Windows Server 2008/2008R2 workloads into Azure so ensuring that any legacy server-based applications that will only run on Windows Server 2008 are still supported.
From an end user perspective, Citrix on Azure opens up a world of more flexible working, you can access your network and get access to your files, email and applications with a single login from any PC, laptop or smart device. The interface mimics your existing desktop environment, it’s just much more portable and more aligned to the needs of healthcare staff.
