Calyx Set to Deliver Managed ICT Infrastructure for New University Technical College Campus

03 March 2015

Calyx has announced it has been chosen by the Leigh Academies Trust to implement and manage the ICT infrastructure at a third educational facility: The Leigh University Technical College (UTC).

The Trust went through an Education Funding  Agency Framework to choose MASS (www.massineducation.co.uk) who recommended a Brocade Wireless Infrastructure to be deployed, and supported with a managed service from Calyx, the UK Managed Services provider.

The Leigh UTC installation follows hard on the heels of successful ICT infrastructure implementations by Calyx at two other Leigh Academies Trust facilities: The Leigh Academy and Wilmington Academy.

“The work Calyx has done for us at The Leigh Academies Trust has revolutionised our whole approach to ICT,” says Stephane Vernoux, IT Director, Leigh Academies Trust.  “The knowledge that we can rely on Calyx to keep the systems up and running at all times has given us the freedom of thought to develop our vision for the future, plan our strategy and ensure our students have the best environment in which to learn. The new roll-out will allow us to extend these benefits still further.

The Leigh UTC solution consists of a virtualised server infrastructure; a new desktop infrastructure, incorporating the roll-out of 250 PC workstations, a telephony solution provided by ShoreTel; and a wireless LAN deployment using systems from network solutions provider, Brocade.

The wireless infrastructure from Brocade has already been successfully implemented as part of the two earlier installations.  Its scalability, flexibility and ability to support many thousands of devices have been key to the success of the online-driven learning environment at those sites.

As at The Leigh and Wilmington academies, the ICT architecture at The Leigh UTC will be supplemented by a Calyx managed service which includes 24/7 monitoring and helpdesk support as well as proactive management that is backed up by stringent especially-tailored SLAs. Calyx also provides a Breakfix service for all new and existing hardware.

“We are delighted to have the opportunity to build on our already strong partnership with Leigh Academies Trust by helping to roll-out the new infrastructure at The Leigh University Technical College,” says Steve Clark, Calyx CEO. “The new Leigh UTC implementation will enable us to work closely together to bring the benefits of online learning to an ever expanding number of pupils across a growing range of academy sites.”
